The County’s Department of Transportation is applying for a $240,000 grant through the Reconnecting Communities Pilot Program. If awarded, the County will use the funding to develop a plan to connect the communities north and south of I-85 between the Center Way and Beaver Ruin Road overpasses. The County will match the grant at $60,000 using 2017 SPLOST funds.
The department will also apply for a $888,000 grant through the Federal Rail Administration’s Railroad Crossing Elimination Grant Program. The funds will be used to study the re-alignment of existing at-grade railroad crossings to improve safety and mobility. An at-grade railroad crosses another railroad or highway on the same level. In addition to the grant funding, the County will provide matching funds of $222,000 from the 2017 SPLOST.
